Client Success Stories

  1. Closing days are always special, but some are EXTRA special. I began working with a newlywed couple as they embarked on the journey to home ownership. Their enthusiasm was only matched by their sheer sense of bewilderment. They didn't know what they didn't know. Loan terminology was like a foreign language. After meeting with a lender, they weren't even sure they could afford a home...and if so, how much of a home. They wanted to ask intelligent questions. They wanted to evaluate each home objectively. They wanted to make the RIGHT decision. Sensing their excitement mingled with apprehension, I used each showing appointment as an educational moment. Each room presented an opportunity to teach a little "tidbit" about the process. We looked at numerous houses. We debriefed after each one. We finally found THE ONE. We made an offer...waited...and then came the news. We lost out to another offer. They were crushed. But not crushed to the point of throwing in the towel. We re-grouped, re-strategized and re-engaged. Not long after the disappointment, we found a gem...even better than the one they originally had their heart set on. Once again, we put our best foot forward and made a strong offer. I silently hoped it was enough. In a competitive market, there is a fine line between a strong offer and foolish offer. I was hopeful that we struck the right balance. One of the most rewarding and enjoyable phone calls occurred the next morning. I asked my client to do me a favor. I told her that I needed her to pick up several rolls of packing tape that day. "Because you are moving in a month! You are under contract." Her squeals expressed more than her words ever could. Watching them sign documents and receive keys was one of the highlights of my year. This is why I love my job.
  2. If there is anything we can count on, it is change. I recently worked with a couple who found themselves in a time of transition. They have always been an active couple...travelling across the country in their RV, visiting grandchildren, seeking new adventures. They both excelled in their careers, and this was their time to enjoy retirement. Until a health challenge arrived unexpectedly. Their "forever" home now was becoming more burdensome; and they felt the need to move closer to family who could support them as they navigate the new "normal" of their lives. They contacted me about selling their beloved home. We sat together and talked about when they wanted to move and what must be done to prepare the home. We worked together throughout the process. We addressed all the concerns a potential buyer may have. We talked at length about the right listing price, mindful of the current market conditions. I cautioned them not to be patient...homes in their price range were not moving very quickly. Every conversation with them reminded me how much they loved this house, how much time and energy they invested in it. They were proud of it. I so hoped that the right buyer would come along who valued it and treasured it the same way. The listing went active on a Friday morning, and we had two offers within 24 hours. We analyzed and compared the offers meticulously...reviewing each offer on its merits. They made their decision and I informed the buyer's agent. To my great delight, the agent shared how the buyers felt "at home" the moment they walked through the front door. They loved the house exactly as it was and had no plans to change a single detail. For my seller, this eased the difficulty of leaving such a treasured home. The transaction was seamless, and all parties enjoyed the satisfaction of watching the home transfer from one proud owner to the next. Change is hard, but moments like these lessen the burden.
